I argue along these lines that the war on terror that effectively officially took off after September 11 was a war to maintain and foster the grand strategy of openness and the expanded American hegemony. ![]() The main objective is to alienate the last poles of resistance to American hegemony that still prevailed there. Recent interventions against terrorist groups in Africa and the Middle East served as the blueprint to launch long awaited strikes to bring down “rogue” regimes sponsoring terrorism. ABSTRACT Relying on the war on terror as field of analysis, this essay investigates the behavior of American leaders in the fight against terrorism. ![]()
